Lying at the southeast corner of Spain surrounded by beautiful beaches and the rugged countryside of the Sierra Nevada, Almeria is an understandably popular destination for tourists visiting the area from the UK.
Almeria was one of the most important cities in the time of Moorish rule in Andalusia, and its name means Al Meraya "the watchtower". It is dominated by a magnificent castle - Al Cazaba, the second largest of the Moorish fortresses in Spain, bested only by the impressive Alhambra palace in Granada.
The main attraction for visitors to Almeria is the coastline, where gorgeous beaches and year round sun await. There are many golf courses available for visitors to the area, and hotels range from the basic to the luxurious to cater for the tastes of all visitors.
When you pick up your hire car in Almeria, there are many attractions to see in the area, and these include the countryside of Andalusia, where you can drive through the mountains to the cities of Granada and Cordoba, or alternatively, make your way along the coast towards the Costa del Sol, where there are many tourist friendly towns and resorts such as Malaga, Marbella, and Puerto Banus to visit. Being Spain's premier tourist area, along the southern coast of the country, there are countless attractions to see including many water parks and gorgeous fishing villages.
